Spokane River
WARNING: POISON IVY HAS BEEN REPORTED AROUND THE CACHE!
This cache was originally hidden on Easter weekend, 2001, as one of the Easter Egg Hunt series (the yellow egg). On December 26, 2001, the container was replaced with a more durable ammo can. At that time, the cache location was moved, as the original hiding spot - a rotten stump - had rotted away. Sometime during the fall of 2002, that cache disappeared, and on November 29, 2002, was replaced in a third location.
The cache is located near the banks of the Spokane River in Corbin Park. The hiding spot is positioned along the base of an old irrigation canal that runs from Post Falls (see the Post Falls Cache and the photo there of the old irrigation gate). There are bathrooms and playfields at the park, making this spot an excellent outing with children. Keep in mind, however, that a short scramble up a relatively steep hillside is required to get to the hiding spot. Also, be sure to stay out of the river near the park, as the undertow here is extremely dangerous.
The cache container is an olive drab 50 cal. ammo can with "geocache" spraypainted in yellow on multiple sides. Please be sure to rehide the container well when you leave to avoid another plundering!
