Q: Why this geocache is called "Queen Adelaide" ? R: After the fall of Roman Empire, the Garda zone was invaded by more barbarians army; for this it is coming very important for entire defense system of south part of the lake. The original name probabily derives from german word "Warte" that it means guard, fortress with reference at fortress present on the top of Rocca of Garda. This stronghold becomes important during these years so that the lake loste the original and old name "Benacus" to acquire new name "Garda" (700÷800 a. C.). Starting to 888 during wars between dukes to acquire feuds and new territories appears the figure of queen Adelaide of Burgundy (931-999), from 952 wife of Ottone I (912-973) emperor of Saxony dinasty, mother of Ottone II (955-983). A story/legend reports that queen Adelaide was imprisoned with cutted hair for political reason: she refuse to marry Berengario II that he nominate he-self king of Italy (after the dead of hausband of Adelaide, Lotario II) to regularize the position of king and to have the power. But after some help by a friar she succeed to escape with his handmaid via lake on boat of a fisherman.

La leggenda della Regina Adelaide Una celeberrima "Rocca" - detta della Regina - sovrastava il capoluogo (a m. 294 d'altitudine) e dominava il lago almeno fin dall'età longobarda: i documenti medioevali la nominano spesso, assieme ad altre rocche e castelli che insistevano nel golfo. Un'altra rocca sembra essere stata costruita nel luogo dove adesso c'è I'Eremo (a m. 309 d'altitudine) e un "Castellum de Garda plana", in basso sul lago, sembra riferirsi proprio al centro abitato. Delle rocche la più famosa è quella nella quale fu imprigionata la sventurata regina Adelaide di Borgogna. I fatti sono così riassumibili: dopo Berengario la corona d'Italia era passata ad Ugo di Provenza e poi al di lui figlio Lotario che, nel 947, aveva sposato Adelaide di Borgogna. Ma Lotario fu avvelenato dal proprio tutore. Berengario duca di Ivrea propose allora a Adelaide di sposare Alberto, suo figlio ed erede. Essendosi però Adelaide rifiutata, egli la fece imprigionare nella Rocca di Garda, donde misteriosamente essa riuscì a fuggire e a porsi poi in salvo divenendo in seguito la moglie di Ottone.
