Geocache Description:

THE CO-ORDINATES ABOVE ARE FOR PARKING.

Lovely tranquil walk near Ponds, then a steep climb on an even, smooth path to the top of ridge to see a 50 mile Panoramic view.

The Coordinates above are for one of two car parks,(other car park coordinates are below). This car park has limited parking for about 6 cars but you can normally find a space. It takes about 40 mins to get to ridge from here, the car park is close to the Dean Heritage Centre Museum, where afterwards you could learn all about the Forest of Dean, its people and the important part it played throughout history as a Royal Forest and as a iron & coal producing area.

They have a childrens play area, Picnic tables, toilets, shop, ice cream etc; and restaurant & tourist info available. There is a admission charge and a additional parking fee via honesty box when we checked it today which was 50p but may change in the future.

Additionally before or after the cache there is a 1.25 mile circular walk suitable for disabled and wheelchairs are allowed also, at the coordinates for the first car park.

The whole area is full of wildlife as its designated as a site of special scientific interest due to the alder carr which attracts different varieties invertibrates, it is also a private fishing area.

Now onto the cache info:-

If you would prefer a shorter walk without taking in another pond, you could park at a larger car park at:-N51'48.128 W002'29.453 which also has a pond nearby but not as scenic. There is a track back to the other pond though from here. Due to tree cover coordinates were within 40 ft for this car park but easily spotted anyway.

The walk up to the Ridge takes about 30 minutes and it's a bit of a climb from the 2nd car park, we have seen bikes and horses use this track from here, but they have not been seen around the ponds.

The view at the top is worth the walk though. You are looking for a camo bag containing a very small pot with a log sheet. Choose your moment to retrieve it so that you are not spotted. Please hide it well when replacing.

The cache is at N51' 48.278 W002' 28.776. HOPE YOU ENJOY!
