The Old Customs House was opened in 1884 as the checkpoint for goods on the river trade between the colonies.
It continued in service until 1902 when it closed its doors and gradually sank into disrepair. A recent restoration has brought the old building back to its former glory and a small general store now operates from the premesis serving visitors and houseboat holidaymakers.
While here, take a walk by the riverfront, or stroll along one of the bush walks through the Chowilla Conservation Area that start at this point.
Before starting the short uphill climb for the cache, first walk from the car park to the nearby Chowilla sign. This will enable you to avoid the fence and the climb should be easier from this point. Be careful as the surface may vary underfoot under varying weather conditions.
