Geocache Description:

Very easy beginner cache in Wild River State Park (admission fee for vehicles $5), contains guide sheets with coordinates for 6 virtual caches in the park. Combination to open the cache is the year in which the park officially opened to the public, can be found at http://files.dnr.state.mn.us/maps/state_parks/spk00254.pdf or on a printed map handout available at the park. Key in the year followed by the star key.

You can complete the Find History at Wild River State Park cache in anywhere from a few minutes to an hour, depending on where in the park you are when you put your coordinates into your GPS and start walking. The destination is easy to get to and the hidden container is easy to find. This cache is good practice for a first-time geocacher. But there’s more!

The “extra credit” part of the cache opens up an opportunity for you to test your geocaching skills on something more challenging, see more of the park, and learn about it at the same time.

• Your reward for finding the cache and opening the container is a guide sheet which gives you coordinates for six virtual caches scattered around the park.
• At these virtual caches you’ll find information about the people who lived in and traveled through the St. Croix River Valley from thousands of years ago up until the early 1900s.
• You could spend from half a day to two days traveling to all the locations, depending on how you choose to travel and how much sightseeing you do along the way.

To open the cache you will need to know:
• What year did Wild River State Park officially open to the public? (Hint: look at the back of a paper copy of the park trail map.)
• At the cache, you will need to key in the year, followed by an asterisk (star *)
