Geocache Description:

Beech Hill Wood, owned by Woodland Trust. Just off A592 road between Bowness on Windermere and Newby Bridge. One of a series of geocaches put out for Windermere on Water, a weekend event in June. Hopefully a simple easy cache to find to encourage people to find more.

Please include in log 1) if Windermere on Water encouraged you, and 2) any comments and pix about the wood from your visit. (flora and fauna, leaf cover etc.)
Can be found in snow.

Before venturing into woodland, please read the Woodland Trust notice board, situated in north east corner of LDNP car park, inviting you to wander anywhere you want in their woodland.

CAUTION FAST MOVING TRAFFIC on A592

The board suggests entry to the wood by walking north along the narrow A592 road to a pair of 6 bar gates. The A592 has scarily fast traffic, and drivers will not be expecting to see walkers on the road.

For safety, try entering wood by crossing the road immediately opposite HIDEAWAY and KESSOCK's driveway, at north end of hotel forecourt, on the brow of road.

When you meet someone else in this wood, introduce yourself as they will be a fellow geocacher. I have yet to see anyone else in this wood.

No suggested route, so hopefully you will wander about, as requested. GPSr signal will be poor at best of times, but cache is in an area of better signal. Hopefully clue and spoiler will help.

This cache is almost as sparse as a SOTA cache, as it currently contains
log book
pencil
eraser
sharpener
WoW card

None of the above which are swaps. There is room in box for small swaps.
plus a few swaps
Box was WHITEFURZE 15 x 10 x 5 cm with white plastic lid.

For people travelling by water, approaching from lake, at normal lake levels, there are small shingle beaches between exposed tree roots. Windermere lake is a public highway, subject to rules of the road and rules of navigation at sea, with few public access points. Beech Hill LDNP Access Land is one of them. Speed limit on lake is 10 mph in this area. Lake has its own bye-laws available from LDNPA .

Public launching for boat users is either Fell Foot, or Ferry Nab. Private slipways exist in nearby caravan parks and outdoor centres.

Cyclists can lock to a fence or bicycle stand in car park.

Pay and Display Car park has toilets, and ice cream van at popular times. Next door is Beech Hill Hotel with all facilities for patrons. There is a FREE lay-by 50 metres south of above car park on A592 with excellent views.

Please ensure hidden from all sides. Cache is not hidden in or on any man made structure.
