Geocache Description:

This cache is on Cranberry Peak on the Bigelow Range near Stratton. It's a 30 cal ammo can. I hid this cache on the day of my 4 year caching anniversary.

From this vantage you can get an awesome view of Flagstaff Lake. The small hill near the middle of the lake is Jim Eaton Hill. The town of Flagstaff sat just to the left of it. This lake was created in 1949 in the name of progress. The villages of Flagstaff, Dead River, and Bigelow were razed to make this happen. They relocated the entire town even relocating the cemetery to Eustis. This is where my father was born and grew up. It's a place I would like to have visited. There were less than 200 people living there at the time, but I can't imagine this happening is this day and age. There are several ways to hike this range and I am leaving it to you as to which way you want to go. The DeLorme Gazetteer does show some trails, but not all are accurate. The trail head I used is in Stratton. I have included a turn as a child waypoint. Please re hide carefully so it won't get muggled. Enjoy the hike, and please bring your camera. As always L.N.T. and C.I.T.O.
