Bobcat (Lynx rufus) Mystery Cache

This cache has been archived.

bitbrain: Because of some youthful exuberance (is that the nice way to put it?) this area is now closed at night. With this being a night cache, that kinda killed it...

Geocache Description:

This is a Night Cache

I saw a bobcat while driving to work in the wee hours one morning this week. They're nocturnal critters, so those of us who spend most of our time walking about in the daylight don't see them often.

The bobcat is the largest cat you're likely to find in Tennessee. There are urban legends of panthers or mountain lions in the state, but there hasn't been a breeding population of those here in well over a century. That leaves the Bobcat as the Tiger of Tennessee.

The posted coordinates should take you to the vicinity of a tree with two reflectors on it. From there, you simply follow the reflectors through the forest until you come to another set of two. The ammo can should be between the second pair.

There are forty-six single reflectors between the pairs that start and end this cache.

There is no marked trail to get you out of the woods. You're on your own at that point.

FireTacks use a retroreflective material. This means that the light shown at the firetack will be reflected back to the SOURCE of the light. For this reason headlamps are recommended. When using a headlamp your eyes will follow the beam of light. The FireTacks may not appear as bright to someone standing next to the person with the light. If you are using handheld flashlight hold it to your eye level. I recommend a red LED light source. It will preserve your night vision and the FireTacks stand out with greater contrast to the surrounding forest.
