Lycan's Lair Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

OReviewer: As there's been no cache to find for months, I'm archiving it to keep it from continually showing up in search lists, and to prevent it from blocking other cache placements. If you wish to repair/replace the cache sometime in the future, just contact us (by email), and assuming it meets the guidelines, we'll be happy to unarchive it.

Geocache Description:

The cache is in Oceanport, NJ. The Terrain is mostly flat, with a single ridge running along the northern side. There are dirt trails to within 50 feet of the cache at the nearest point. The rest of the way is across nicely trimmed grass except for the last 15 feet. A nice easy hike for those with limited time in a scenic but often forgotten part of town.

Despite the fact that mapquest says this cache is on Monmouth Park Racetrack, it is safely away from the summer hustle and bustle. The cache is actually located in Wolf Hill Park.

The cache itself is a brown pvc cylinder, approximately 8 inches long and 3 inches in diameter. The contents include a logbook, and a basic array of small goodies...the new cache container has room for small trading items only.

THE LOGBOOK IS IN ITS OWN TINY PLASTIC CYLINDER WITHIN THE CACHE -- PLEASE SIGN IT BUT PLACE IT BACK WITHIN THE CYLINDER WHEN FINISHED -- THIS SHOULD KEEP IT DRY AND SAFE!

Bring your own pen! The cache's new container does not have room for one!

The lids at either end screw on, so please make sure the lid is secured as far as it can go WITHOUT FORCING the screw cap. If you force it shut it will jam and the next cacher will not be able to open it. The cache is also tightly secured in its position, but it will come completely out with minimal effort. Please place the cache back exactly as it was so that it doesn't fall prey to the elements or a curious muggle. Cache is not on the ground. Gps may be a bit bouncy when you get close, but the listed coordinates read within 18 ft. so the search shouldn't be too hard.

-Update: 5/5/06 - Due to the helpful input of several geocachers and my own opinion that the original container was too easily spotted, I have removed the longer, clear cache container, replacing it with a shorter, dark green one. The cache is still in exactly the same place as it always has been. Enjoy!

-Update: 7/5/06 - Finally finished revamping this cache. The logbook is now a piece of paper within a clear plastic cylinder of its own, as noted above. Please make sure the log stays in the cylinder, and the cylinder stays within the cache container. Thanks and Enjoy!

-Update: 8/18/06 - Hopefully this will be the last major renovation of this cache for awhile. Wanted to change the container because I got reports the lids are loose. New container much more strudily built (brown pvc with screw on caps at both ends). This should keep the cache secure and dry. Thanks to all who posted the cache's condition.
