The Leopold Center, which opened in 2007, was the first building ever awarded carbon-neutral status by the U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership and Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification program: annual operations account for no net carbon dioxide emissions. The center serves as the headquarters for the Aldo Leopold Foundation and a hub for its educational outreach and land stewardship programs. Founded in 1982, the Aldo Leopold Foundation owns and manages the Leopold Center, including the Leopold Shack and Farm, where Aldo Leopold was inspired to write his most famous book A Sand County Almanac.
While you are here, take time to look around the facility and the grounds. There is a lot to learn here.
Please try to come during the Center’s hours of operation. During the season (April through October) hours are Monday - Saturday, 9:00 am - 5:00 pm. Off-season (November - April) hours are Monday - Friday, 10:00 am - 4:00 pm
