Geocache Description:

This cache is a part of a series highlighting Winnebago County’s “Lost Civilizations”. It was formerly part of the The Quest for Lost Civilizations (GC22CJE) series, which has now been archived.

Koro was a once busy center for a booming farm community. Visitors and residents alike once took pleasure in the lapping sounds of the nearby creek, participated in competitions hosted by the Koro Calf Club, sold their dairy products to the local creamery, attended the Koro Evangelical Church to enjoy the gospel sounds of its choir and Christmas programs, enjoyed the firecrackers at the Fourth of July celebrations in the oak grove in back of the hill near the school, or gathered for the lively temperance meetings of the Good Templars and weekly practices of the Koro Band at Koro Hall. The community was also home to a blacksmith shop and post office that operated from 1850 to 1903.

But, by 1957, the only remnants of this once populous center were the creamery. The school was closed. Koro Hall was quiet. The church sold the building in 1932. And the creek had been reduced to an occasional trickle from farming. Today, the small country roads have been expanded into county and state highways and even the creamery is gone, although the building still stands.

The cache is pill bottle with my usual camo hidden within the right of way just off public hunting grounds. There is no need to venture into the hunting land more than a few feet off the road, but be aware of the potential hunters in season.
