Stealth loves watching a good movie. He really focuses on the screen when he is in a theater.
Ok, this is not Stealth, but you get the idea.
So, what would you expect at a film festival put on by Stealth?
Maybe something mafia related?
Action packed?
Scifi?
A mind blower?
A cult classic?
An old comedy?
A newer comedy?
Yes, comedy is relative.
Perhaps a film with an amazingly seasoned actor?
Or a war film?
All would be great guesses.
But in this case, none would be correct.
In this case the film festival is all about...
GEOCACHING!!!
And what we will do for a cache.
I mean it really is something isn't it.
But you don't have to go through all this to get a smiley. All you have to do for this cache is show up and enjoy the geocaching themed short films that have been produced by geocachers from around the globe. The films we will be watching are the finalists for the 2015 Geocaching International Film Festival that was slated for screening at the 2015 Block Party in Seattle on August 15th. Unfortunately, flooding forced the event to be cancelled. Fortunately, we are now able to view the films right here in Kansas City without a flight... or a long drive... or a time machine...
We will be meeting in the Leawood Pioneer Meeting Room at 12:30PM.
So take a quick break from the office, or from your caching expedition, and stop in to experience Kansas City's very first International Geocaching Film Festival.
POST-FESTIVAL NOTES:
There were nearly 50 ballots turned in voting for first, second, and third spots for the 16 films shown.
Some quick bullet points on the voting:
Only 4 of the 16 films did not receive a vote as a top 3 film.
Nearly 50% of the films (7 of 16) received first place votes on at least 2 ballots.
The winning film received a 1st place vote on nearly 50% of the ballots (22 of 46).
Both the 2nd and 3rd place films received 1st place votes on just 17.5% of the ballots (8 of 46).
That said, the 2nd place films received votes on 35 of the ballots while the 1st place film only appeared on 34 ballots.
The 3rd place video appeared on a total of 17 ballots.
So, while there was a range of films that impressed our Kansas City audience, the top three films emerged very clearly in the ranks awarded.
1st Place – Saturday by Hurricane Juan – USA – Cute dog goes caching – 85 points
2nd Place – The Future of Geocaching by Chrishutchy– UK – Great Caching Glasses – 69 points
3rd Place – Geocaching Infomercial by gasgoose – USA – The Infomercial – 36 points
Films that receive honorable mention with 2 first place votes and 18 points each include:
Geoman by Lat&Long Junkie & Pigwig – Australia
Signal by iepu09 – Romania (the animated horror film about cache maintenance)
