Geocache Description:

This is a two-part multi along the Mohawk River. Park on the south side of the Rexford Bridge at the Kiwanis Aqueduct Park.

The above coordinates are for a micro (unconventional) which has the coordinates for the final (ammo can). This location was where the "The Trolley Bridge" was built and opened July 1, 1904 by the Schenectady Rail Company and American Bridge Co. It was built upstream from the Rexford Bridge in Alplaus to give trolleys an express route to Saratoga County from Niskayuna. It was 1800' long with a high steel trestle on top of limestone piers and was the "longest trolley bridge in the world". It served as a trolley crossing to the Rexford/Luna Amusement Park where people could go for carnival rides and its roller coaster (1901-1933). It also went to Saratoga with stops in Ballston Lake (2) one of which was an amusement park on the west shore. It then wound through Ballston Spa and what is now Saratoga Park. A Union College student (all boys school at the time) made the comment that for a quarter one could go to Saratoga for a "good" time - i.e., Skidmore (an all girls school) on the trolley

The Trolley Bridge at Alplaus met its demise on December 7, 1941, just two hours before the attack on Pearl Harbor. The steel of the bridge was removed in 1942 for war materials ... "the steel went to war". The center piers were removed several years later to widen the barge channel. What remains are piers along the south side and three in each side of the river.

The area can be wet at times - waterproof footwear are your friends
