CANDLER’S MOUNTAIN GEOCACHE Traditional Geocache

Dot Plotter: With great regret it is time for one of the oldest caches in VA to be archived. Due to changes on Candler's Mountain, this location and the experience in getting there are so very different from 2001. Hopefully whoever picked up the ammo can and dropped it off for triffid will use the newly opened space and find a suitable location nearby.

Thanks to all 153 of those who visited and found this cache over the years.

Geocache Description:

This is a very short hike up a moderately steep hill, but the view is worth it. Elv: 1336

Cache is a smallish camoflaged and well hidden ammo can.

This location offers the best view of Lynchburg, bar none. Years ago a fire burnt the trees off the top of this little peak, opening up the view. Now just scrub grass and small pines are scattered about. Unfortunately, it is a popular spot for off-roaders so there is litter and broken glass scattered about.

Since it is so popular, I had to hide the cache off of the summit. My friend and I hiked up from our place of work during our lunch break.

Park in either the Wingate Hotel or Candler’s Mall parking lot, instead of along the road.
