Located on Tyee Ridge near Tyee LO. at 6,590 ft. elevation. Easy open country hike off Tyee Ridge Trail #1415. This is a multi use trail, so don't get too excited if you see a motorcycle or horse. Beautiful views in all directions. You are looking for a 30 cal ammo box that is dedicated to my faithful companion Rocky the geo dog.
Hike of less than 2 miles r/t and a short way off trail to reach the cache. It was a 10 mile snowshoe trip when I placed the cache in mid May 08. Check on snow conditions if done prior to June. The adventure will be the road getting to the cache depending on what you drive.
Take the paved FS rd 5700 out of Ardenvoir up the Entiat River RD about 10 miles to the end of the pavement and turnoff to FS 5713. (Regular car can make it this far no problem). This fairly good gravel rd. climbs steeply for the first 3/4 of a mile and then begins to deteriorate. SUV, or 4x4 might be required from here or walk. I drove my Honda Civic last Fall almost to the top and punched a hole in the gas tank, so be warned!
Find the TH parking at a large turnout near the top and enjoy miles of high alpine country to roam. Take the short hike to the Tyee Lookout and Hot Brakes Lookout cache and work your way NW along the ridge for this cache and incredible scenery.
Cache was placed when there was 6 ft. of snow on the ground and was going to be placed on Signal Peak, but this was a compromise when I ran out of gas on a HOT 90 degree day. Cache was located on bare ground, so might be doable much earlier in the season via snowmobile.
