Geocache Description:

I thought that it would be fun to hide a cache the week March Madness begins, just to get everyone in the mood! The cache is hidden in an industrial area of town where the Adidas warehouse is located. It is in a tin box inside a wooden wine box that is covered with green duct tape.
PS - I thought of putting a couple of FINAL FOUR tickets in the cache for the FTF, but that would put pressure on all of the other folks hiding caches in the future. That would be a tough act to follow! :)

Our family thoroughly enjoys watching the underdogs and the favourites battle it out for the title of NCAA Men's Division I Basketball Champions. This tournament boasts some of the best basketball action you will probably ever see, complete with "ally-oops", "slam dunks", "clutch shots", and "buzzer-beaters" that will make your head spin! This year's tournament runs from March 19 - April 6, so don't forget to tune in!

HISTORY OF BASKETBALL

The roots of basketball are firmly embedded in Canada! In 1891 the game was invented by Dr. James Naismith, a Canadian who hailed from Almonte, Ontario. He created the game of basketball while teaching a physical education class at the YMCA in Springfield, Massachusetts. The original game involved 13 rules, a peach basket hung ten feet above the floor, and a soccer ball.

HISTORY OF MARCH MADNESS

Like many of our modern sporting traditions, the history of March Madness begins at about the turn of the 20th century. As a result of the Industrial Revolution, more people had more time to pursue sports and leisure activities, both participating and watching. The history of March Madness actually began as a small high school invitational in Illinois back in 1908. By the late 1930's more than 900 schools across the state were participating in the tournament. This tournament began well before the age of television, meaning that this phenomena grabbed the people of Illinois almost entirely by word of mouth.

Since its 1939 inception it has built a legacy that includes dynasty teams and dramatic underdog stories. All games of the tournament are broadcast on CBS.

Today, March Madness is an enormous phenomenon!

The NCAA Men's Division I Basketball Championship is a single elimination tournament held each spring featuring 65 college basketball teams in the United States. This tournament, known as MARCH MADNESS or the BIG DANCE, takes place over three weeks at sites across the U.S., and the national semifinals (the FINAL FOUR) have become one of the nation's most prominent sporting events.

OPTIONAL - If you are a "March Madness" fan, feel free to tell me who your favourite player is, or who your favourite team is, or who you predict will walk away as champs this year when you log your visit.

Happy caching!

Congratulations Karen Rinora for FTF!
