Middlesex C - Reloaded Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

Loch Cache: It is a sad day when you have to say goodbye to a cache such as this. I have replaced it just up the canal with a new cache called Home Run at Ferullo Field.

Good luck and good caching,

Loch Cache

Geocache Description:

BE AWARE OF COORD CHANGE
The original Middlesex C was muggled in September 2004. I have reloaded and relocated the cache about 25 yards from the original location. (N 42 30.264 W 071 09.446) I have covered the new cache quite well with bark, logs and leaves to help keep it from being muggled again. For a geocacher, it should be obvious where it is hidden. Please take care in covering it back up when you are done. Thank you.

The 27 mile long Middlesex Canal connected Boston to the Merrimack River at Lowell. Freight and passengers were carried up and down the canal from 1803 to 1853 when it was superseded by the Boston & Lowell Railroad. The canal played an important role in the development of the region north of Boston as far as Concord, New Hampshire. There is an interesting article on the canal at (visit link) This stretch of the canal runs between Alfred Street near the Baldwin mansion up to about School Street.

I would suggest you Park at N 42 30.360, W 071 09.566. This is a public park with a ball field. Although there are closer parking spots, they are all on private land. If you then walk down the first baseline to the foul post and then turn, you will not cross over the private property.

There are many good caches along the route of the canal including the following:

Dashing Deer (Regular/Traditional) by Pinster56 – N 42° 32.008 W 071° 09.771
Ye Old Aqueduct (Small/Taraditional) by Lost Lake Pirates – N 42° 34.102 W 071° 12.907
Uncle Bubba's Clue Cache (Small/Mystery) by BigRock95 - N 42° 29.806 W 071° 09.473

If you know of others, please let me know.

My daughter and I loaded the cache with items appropriate for young teenage girls. In other words things she’d like. Try to keep with that theme if you can. I have started the cache with one TB and hope it gets pickup early. Due to the muggle factor, I would not recommend placing any travel bugs in this cache.

Thank you and good hunting,

Loch Cache
