Parks Canada has a very informative 5 stop walking tour of the Battle of Queenston Heights at the park/ monument site in Quenston, Ont. The above coordinates should place you at the first stop on the tour. For Geocachers, I have also added a four part multi-cache. Three successive mini-caches lead to a main, final cache. A history lesson, beautiful scenery, a nature trail, and a multi cache all in one! Where else are you gonna get this kinda value for your entertainment dollar?
Before you can start your search for the cache, however, you're gonna have to find some information (you knew that was comin', didn't cha?). All the information you need can be found on the many plaques and carvings in the area. Find the answers to these four questions:
A: How many prisoners were captured by Major-General Sheaffe?
B: In what year of life was Gen. Brock when he was killed?
C: In what year did James Secord die?
D: What is the estimated number of men that comprised the first "Colored Corps"? (No irate emails, please. This last question was copied directly from a plaque placed by Ontario Heritage Foundation and they spelled "Colored" without the "u". Twice. Address your comments to them. I'm just the piano player here. Kinda' makes you wonder who won the war, though, doesn't it?)
Got all the answers? Good. Add 'em up and divide by 1000. Add the result to both N 43" 06.834 and W 79" 00.103. Check the map at the starting coordinates, head east out the main gate (see pic), across the road, and you're on your way!! Happy Caching!!
Other stuff you oughta know:
*each mini cache will require information that you will aquire on the walking tour. Make sure you have a pen and paper with you, you're gonna need them.
* Mini cache #1 is a large pill bottle, camo'd. #2 is a small, square plastic container, also camo'd. #3 is another pill bottle, but it's smaller. The main cache is a clear, rectangular lock 'n' lock container, .
*All the caches are fairly close to the trails and no major bushwhacking is required.
*As the Americans found in 1812, the escarpment causes a lot of problems. I've tweaked the coordinates on several visits to the site, and this is as close as I can get. I suggest you bring the hints with you and decrypt them onsite if you need them (Any earlier would spoil the fun).
