The North Carolina Geocachers Organization is partnering with Clean Jordan Lake to clean up the shoreline of Lake Jordan. Clean Jordan Lake works to expand volunteer programs to remove shoreline trash, to inform local and state government agencies about the problem, and to recommend trash prevention strategies that will keep the shoreline clean in the future.
We will be meeting at the posted coordinates at 8 AM on 4/15/2012. There will be a 20-30 minute hike to the designated stretch of shoreline where we will spend approximately two hours picking up trash. Clean Jordan Lake will provide trash bags and gloves. If you would rather wear your own work gloves please feel free to bring them. All trash must be piled up near the shoreline and left behind. Clean Jordan Lake will travel to the trash coordinates later by boat to remove the trash.
This area is gamelands and is undeveloped. Please keep this in mind as you dress appropriately for a woods hike. Wearing blaze orange is recommended while inside the gamelands. All usual precautions apply while hiking through this area. There will be a moderate hike involved so please be sure to bring any water and snacks that you might need. Hiking boots and long pants are encouraged as well.
Update: 3/23/2012 @ 3 PM:
Waypoints have been added to the cache page for the two trailheads and three reference points that we will be using for this event. One group will head to Trailhead #1 and proceed to reference point #1. They will then head south along the shoreline towards reference point #2. The second group will head to Trailhead #2 and then proceed to reference point #3. From there they will head north to reference point #2. Hopefully both groups will meet around reference point #2 to finish up the CITO event.
