The difficulty and terrain have a rating of ~1.5 because there are
so many interesting ways to approach the Geocache. It can be easy
and/or difficult depending on many factors (you will see).
When in doubt bring your boots!
This is a beautiful area for a hike with friends and family! You
will see lots of trees, diverse land features and some elevation
(something we don’t see much of in the Chicagoland
area).
A compass may be helpful when the canopy is thicker. Take your time
and explore the area. You will find plenty of interesting artifacts
amongst the vegetation.
Long pants, boots, compass and bug spray are most likely needed for
this one! Please note there is Poison Ivy in the area.
Please help keep our parks beautiful and pack out some trash on
your way out.
Note: There is private property in the area, which is identified by
signs. Not all borders are marked clearly.

February 6 by upnorthtrekkers (83 found) This is our first time at this forest preserve and what a blast we had exploring it. We took an off the beaten path to this one and in route we observed a pack of about 12 deer, a red tail hawk, a red bellied woodpecker, and about 6-7 blue birds. TFTC. Took round tuit. Left a compass on a string. SL

January 24 by ShazamMan (1034 found) #1000 @ 1:50 PM!! Whoo-Hoo, I finally made it to 1K! And what a cache to do it with! I had decided many moons ago to celebrate my 1000th with Illinois's oldest geocache and after making a cache run yesterday to 999 -- today was the day to it. And what a beautiful day it was. My daughter Claire (aka YayClaire aka ShazamGirl) came along for the hike as we bypassed other caches to head directly to this one. I spotted it immediately but gave her clues to the final which she found in short order. Thanks a bunch for keeping this old timer going -- it is truly appreciated! TNLN and signed the log! --Walt

January 15 by huggy_d1 (6271 found) Found in good shape while passing through the area. Thanks for the fun. Pretty sure this is the oldest cache I've found - or pretty close to it anyway. I don't have many finds for caches placed in 2000. Cool stuff. I signed the newest log/journal and picked up a TB to move it along. Enjoyed it very much.

December 31, 2009 by kietc (1440 found) Day 832 of our caching streak:Well, our last cache of the year and of the decade, come to think of it. It was neat to find the oldest active cache in Illinois. Now we can add it to our list of oldest caches in each state found, along with Wisconsin and Montana. Thanks for the hunt. Be sure to visit our website (visit link)
