Warning

Please note: To use the services of geocaching.com, you must agree to the terms and conditions in our disclaimer.

This cache takes you to two parks in Auburn dedicated to Dr. Robert Goddard, who is often considered the father of modern rocketry. The listed coordinates will take you to the site of a historic first in rocketry. It was one of the stepping stones that has ultimatly taken us to the moon and beyond and it happened right in Auburn, Massachusetts.

Look for a micro at the listed coordinates. There are some stone walls nearby, but there is no need to take them apart, so please don't. Just put the micro back the way you found it. While here, take the time to check out the monuments marking this historic site. The micro will contain the coordinates of the final cache which is a short drive away. There is ample parking near both cache sites. Near the location of the second cache, you can see a replica of Goddard's famous rocket...no it's not the big one! Cache is a camouflaged lock n' lock box. Please try to rehide it out of view of muggles. There is plenty of natural concealment material on the ground. Thanks.

Enjoy!

I checked on the first stage today. It is indeed missing. I will have to come up with a better system because it is always getting lost.

Did not find stage one, but don't know if snow friendly. Recent trimming of the nearby trees.

The coordinates at the first stage were missing, but have now been replaced. I checked on the final and it was OK.

Hopduvel and I have been meaning to do this one ever since it came out. It was fun to see where that first rocket lifted off-- especially following the recent rocket impacts on the moon. (too bad- no water so far)

We were disappointed that we couldn't find the first WP. We think we know where it is supposed to be, but it's not there.

We made an educated guess as to where to go next and followed the hint, but without any WP coords that was not easy and we didn't find it.

We did enjoy the history!

I stopped by to darken the numbers on the first stage micro. Thanks for the heads up.
