Soccer Ball in the Trees Traditional Geocache

Dudeface: I hate to say this, but the Soccer Ball in the Trees did not survive our visit from Hurricane Katrina. The cache is gone and the tree it was living in has been chopped up for fire wood.

Don’t worry though, this is one of our favorite caches. As soon as the park has been cleaned up, this cache will be recreated.

Geocache Description:

A large, recently commissioned park right on the beaten path.

Well manicured, but still picturesque. The park seems to be the home for a semi-pro sports team of the type you may be able to guess. Lots of traffic, lots of action, lots of room. A good place for kids to run around.

This is a small cache (not a micro), so bring small stuff, and take care that the cache closes properly. There's a pencil, but you might want to bring your own pen. As always, watch for muggles when snatching and returning the cache.

I’ve noticed something with smaller caches. Visitors tend to be careless/ enthusiastic/ overly eager, and tend to over fill the cache, or fail to snap the lid on tight. The result is that smaller caches tend to pop their lids, become water logged, and are more likely to get muggled.

In an attempt to combat this, I’ve removed all the plastic bags from the cache, replacing the log book with a scroll log in its own container. In the future, only leave items that can handle a little moisture, and make sure the cover closes properly before leaving.
