Saratoga Spa State Park’s Hemlock Trail is a unique oasis set within a backdrop of old growth hemlock trees and endless, enormous white pines. While technically located in the city of Saratoga this relaxing area will make you feel miles removed from the hustle and bustle. It was originally used for logging but was then bought by the park to create a golf course. Plans for the golf course fell through and nature lovers were in luck when this 1.1 mile loop trail was created.

The theme of this cache focuses on harmful invasive plant and animal species that can be found in this area. Picture identifiers are available in the cache for those who are interested in helping rid the area of these destructive plants and animals. The Hemlock Wooly Adelgid is a nasty bug that kills hemlock trees and is slowly migrating north towards Saratoga. While it hasn’t arrived here yet imagine the destruction it could do to the Hemlock Trail! Well informed citizens are extremely helpful in keeping New York’s beautiful state parks healthy and invasive-species free.

Trails are well maintained but evidence of Hurricane Irene can still be seen. Fallen trees are a common sight and something to keep a close eye on if you want to find this cache.
