Magnetic bison tube
Built in 1912, Engine Co. No. 28 answered its first emergency call
on July 23, 1913. At the time, it was the most expensive fire
station in Los Angeles with a construction cost of more than
$60,000. It proved to be a good investment for the city. Over the
next five decades, it would respond to many such calls. The
station's active service ended in 1969, and over the coming years
the building fell into disrepair. In 1983, a five-year preservation
effort began which transformed Engine Co. No. 28 into its current
blend of historic architecture and contemporary design. It is now
home to a popular restaurant, Engine Co. No. 28, a theatre
organization, and a law firm.
For Benchmark seekers, there is an interesting benchmark on the
wall of the building. It's the only vertically placed
benchmark
that I've seen.

November 19 by VorpStandoff (452 found) I too have been here this week for the Microsoft conference and I decided to walk back to my hotel today after the conference was over so I could hunt this cache. I had to get at least one California cache while I was here so this was it! I've seen tons of urban caches but this one is one of the best I've seen. Interesting location and even though there were muggles all around me I was able to hunt this, locate it, retreive the container, sign the log, return the log, and replace the container all in broad view of hundreds of muggles. I would have used the 'shoe tying' techniqe but since I was wearing slip-ons, I thought the briefcase/laptop bag rest technique would look more natural. I also spotted and photographed the nearby benchmark. Thanks for placing this cache and adding a little adventure to my visit to L.A.

[view this log] | November 16 by caverdon (1394 found) I'm in LA for a business trip this week, and while here I plan to pick up a few more caches if I have some free time. I had the afternoon free, so I spent it walking around downtown LA, seeing the sights, and getting a cache or two.By the time I arrived here it was a busy evening with a lot of people leaving work. It was a bustling place. My GPSr was dancing all over the place too, and was saying I should be looking around 250 feet away. But I knew that could not be right from the cache name! I stuck to the area, and soon found the cache. Crowds sometime make for some great cover, because their is so much activity around that no one notices a discrete hunt taking place. That was the case here. I SL and rehid as found. TFTC and the interesting history of the area!

[view this log] | November 11 by jmasci (1010 found) Busy week at AAPS, so I have just a little time to grab a few caches before heading home. This was a very nice urban hide and easy enough to grab in a sea of muggles using the "short break from the briefcase" technique. TFTC!
