AVERTISSEMENT: Le niveau de difficulté
du terrain est choisi en fonction du fait que la spéléologie
peut être un sport dangereux. L'approche vers la
caverne peut être considérée comme un terrain de niveau
2.
Cette cache a été placée dans une petite caverne située dans le
parc de la Gatineau. Une des entrées est horizontale.
Je recommande fortement celle-ci plutôt que l'autre: un puits
vertical d'une profondeur d'environ 3 m. La cache est insérée
dans une fente dans un rocher ancré au plancher, et camouflée par
plusieurs roches. Elle se trouve à presque exactement 5 m de
l'entrée horizontale de la caverne. Veuillez replacer les roches pour rendre la cache
invisible : cette caverne est souvent visitée. Le
plafond est bas: vous devez ramper, mais il y a assez d'espace pour
être "confortable". L'entrée horizontale est à la base d'une
parois rocheuse (voir photo ci-incluse). Vous trouverez aussi
des photos du spéléodude se rendant jusqu'à la cache.
N'hésitez pas à explorer la caverne en entier.
Près de l'entrée horizontale débouche un ruisseau. C'est la
résurgence (sortie d'eau) de la caverne. Dans le ruisseau qui
se vide dans les chutes, on peut y retrouver la perte (entrée
d'eau) de la caverne. Elle n'est pas facile à trouver.
Voici certains règlement de sécurité relative à la
spéléologie. Une liste plus complète peut être trouvée au
site web de la
SQS (organisme québécois) et au site web de la NSS
(origanisme américain).
- NE JAMAIS explorer une caverne seul.
- TOUJOURS porter un casque protecteur.
- TOUJOURS transporter deux (certains disent trois) sources de
lumière.
- TOUJOURS avertir quelqu'un de fiable au sujet de l'endroit à
visiter et de l'heure attendue du retour.
- Si quelque chose a l'air dangereux, c'est peut-être parce que ça
l'est. Ne vous y aventurez pas.
Voici quelques règlements de conservation cavernicole.
- Si vous trouvez des déchets évidents, peut-être pouvez-vous
les sortir de la caverne.
- Ne prenez rien sauf des photos.
- Ne laissez rien sauf les empreintes de vos bottes.
Et finalement, voici quelques petites recommandations
amicales.
- L'environnement cavernicole est souvent très sévère pour les
vêtements. Pas de Tuxedos et de belle robes... Ce sera la
dernière fois.
- Si vous voulez explorer les petits endroits (donc en rampant),
portez des protège-genoux.

This cache is located in a small cave found in Gatineau park.
One entrance (the one I recommend) is horizontal. It is located a
few meters west of the posted coordinates at the base of a rock
face. The other entrance is vertical and approximately 3 m deep. I
do not recommend this entrance. It is located a few meters east of
the posted coordinates near the top of a small hill, sllightly
hidden from view. The cache is inserted in a crack in a boulder
anchored to the floor, and hidden from view by a stack of several
rocks. The cache can be found between two entrances to the cave, at
a distance of 5 m from the horizontal entrance (as the bat flies).
The cache can be found within sight of this entrance.
Please put back the rocks to completely
cover the cache : this cave is often visited.
The ceiling is low : you will be crawling, but with
"comfort". Photos show the entrance of the cave, and the
speleodude crawling up to the cache. Feel free to enjoy a
complete visit of the cave.
You will notice a water resurgence near the horizontal cave
entrance. This is part of the same stream that feeds the nearby
waterfalls. A nearly invisible sinkhole right in the main stream
feeds the cave and leaves by the resurgence.
Here are a few basic security rules. A more complete description
of the safety requirements can be found at the NSS website (english
site, based in the US) and the SQS website (french
site, based in Québec).
- NEVER cave alone.
- ALWAYS wear a helmet.
- ALWAYS carry two (some say three) light sources.
- ALWAYS warn a third party exactly where you are going and when
you intend to be back.
- If it looks or feels unsafe, it probably isn't. Don't go
there.
Here are a few basic cave conservation rules.
- CITO (cave in, trash out).
- Take nothing but photographs.
- Leave nothing but footprints.
Here are a few friendly hints.
- Caves are notorious clothes shredders. Don't wear a nice dress
or Tuxedo. You'll never see them again.
- If you intend to crawl a lot (this particular cave has a very low
ceiling), you may want to wear kneepads. You won't regret this.
