P O P S - 31 W. 52nd St.

POPS stands for Privately Owned Public Space and these spaces can be found throughout NYC.  I noticed the tree symbol at several areas while scoping out cache locations and did some investigating. Here is an excerpt from the nyc.gov webpage talking about these POPS.  Click on the following link for more info:

The 1961 Zoning Resolution inaugurated the incentive zoning program in New York City. The program encouraged private developers to provide spaces for the public within or outside their buildings by allowing them greater density in certain high-density districts. Since its inception, the program has produced more than 3.5 million square feet of public space in exchange for additional building area or other considerations such as relief from certain height and setback restrictions.

This cache is located by 31 W. 52nd Street which has a quiet plaza which connects W. 52nd & W. 53rd Streets. Lots of seating and an interesteing rock sculpture in the center. Stop by the Museum of Modern Art (MOMA) which is right down the block from this cache.
This cache is a micro that might be tough for some to grab. I am 6ft 1in tall and I sometimes forget that not everyone has the same reach as I do. I searched far and wide and this was the only place I could find for this cache so if you are a little on the short side you might want to bring along a taller buddy to lend a hand. Sorry about that.
Look high for this nicely hidden cache and please be sure to replace the cache deep back in its spot to be sure it is safely hidden. This is the same container as used at my other caches in the area so good luck!!
