WRR-4K: Ferret Syrup Pot Traditional Geocache

This is a cache placed in honor of WRR's 4,000 finds. As a geocacher since 2003, Bill had found many of the caches on Long Island. We wanted to be a part of hiding a few more for him to find! Please let Bill be the FTF. This cache is a bison tube. Please make sure to replace and secure the cache.
Recently we went on a tour at Hoyt's Farm in Smithtown where we learned about maple sugaring. Maple sugaring is the process of collecting the sap from certain trees and condensing it down into a syrup or sugar for consumption. We're in a very unique location of the world where the Maple tree and Walnut trees are native to the region and have the right weather conditions to produce the sap needed. The nights have to be close to freezing temperatures and warm enough for the sap to rise during the day. The sap needs to be collected before the tree buds, as once the buds appear the sap will bitter. In the NY region that timing is the end of February to the middle of March.
The sap collected is practically water and needs to be boiled to a syrup consistency. It takes 40 gallons of sap to make one gallon of maple syrup and hours of cooking time. For the geocache container we left - it would make a speck of syrup! (Which is a good thing that ferrets don't eat pancakes or syrup!)
This is very close to parking and picnic area, so please be stealthy in your search!
