Geocache Description:

Some of the ground is not level

This is part of a series of caches planned as a salute to small towns everywhere. Our focus will be on attractions & events from yesteryear and today, because none of us know what tommorrow may bring. I hope that everyone will enjoy this series of caches & will take time to learn more about some of the small towns that are still interesting today. I have planned these caches as micro's, multi's, and even an ammo can or two along the way. This one is also placed to help "fill in the gap" on HWY 51 from Memphis northward. Henning Tn. Hometown of Professional baseball player Jim Hickman, & also Pultizer Prize winning Novelist- ALex Haley. Haley's book "Roots" recieved international acclaim & spurred millions to research their own ancestry. Bethlehem Cemetary is the Haley family burial plot where "Chicken George" is buried. Henning was founded in 1873 close to the tracks of the Illinois Central railroad & developed industries based on saw mill, grist mill, & cotton gins. I had planned for this to have been a multi cache to include the Alex Haley boyhood home museum, but I was not able to reach anyone at the museum to get the okie dokey. The museum is located @ N 35 40.413 W089 34.594. Check this out if you have time. While at the cemetary "Chicken George's" final resting place is located @ N 35 40.280 W089 33.359. THe cache is a new type container that I am trying so please make sure you close the lid properly and replace as you found the cache if not better. Enclosed is a lot of swag items, and a "nice" FTF prize along with the log book and pen and of course the geo rules. Have fun and I hope you enjoy this cache. I would not do this cache at night but it can be done if needed. Geocachers of West Tennessee
