Notice: location changed 11OCT2005.

Ammo can hidden in the Samoa Dunes Recreation area.

Go past the Coast Guard station on the North Jetty through the gate that is open during daylight hours. The cache is hidden in the brushy dunes where off roading is allowed. Take in the view of the ocean from the jetty. This cache has been moved three times now and will be moved again when the grass in the area gets to trampled and makes the location too apparent. Do not be overly concerned with the welfare of the grass in the area as this is a designated off road vehicle "playground" and a few geocachers each month will have relatively little impact compared to an ATV screaming through the dunes. The grass is invasive English beach grass and in several other areas along the coast groups are attempting to eradicate it in order to restore the natural ecosystem, including several endangered plant species. So give it an extra stomp for me.

Coordinates need to be fixed. We searched today even with a 50 ft radius. Vegetation is getting trampled so that the cache is harming the environment. And the tick situation is not being exaggerated by previous cachers. I too had 10 to 20 on me at various times.

For those of you (including myself) that thought this cache was MIA, I have news to prove different. I went there today and proves to be alive and well, just a bit off the stated coordinates... about 50 feet or so. Hoewver, as looked down at my pant legs I must have brushed off over 30 or so ticks during this short hike. Lucky the little buggers don'r move too fast, or I would have had to spend the rest of the afternmoon performing "extractions." Use plenty of "Off" and brush 'em off yourself ASAP. Good Luck, and good caching to all.

Should have read the notes on this one first. We could have saved ourselves the grief of looking for a defunct cache, not to mention the creep-out factor of being covered with ticks when we got out of there. Between the three of us, we picked about 15 of the little blood suckers off us! BEWARE!!
