Geocache Description:

Wausau CITO and Potluck - WGA Regional Event

WHERE: Riverside Park, Wausau, WI
DATE: Saturday, May 2, 2009
TIME: 9:00 a.m. See the schedule of events below.
COST: Free (Donations will be accepted and welcomed)

Time for a cleanup! The Wisconsin Geocaching Association (WGA) is proud to sponsor Wausau's 2009 CITO event! (What is CITO?) This regional event will be held May 2nd at the Riverside Park Pavilion in Wausau and will cover several parks around town. Prizes and supplies have been donated by the city of Wausau, Wausau Water Works, Wausau Kayak and Canoe Corporation, the Wausau Parks Department and by the Wisconsin Geocaching Association.

The fun will begin at the pavilion (see posted coords) at 9:00am Saturday morning with coffee, donuts, cookies, etc and a chance to pick up the information for the temporary caches, download waypoints, strategize about team deployment, drop off lunch items, meet other cachers, etc. There is plenty of parking near the pavilion and it is handicapped accessible. The Wausau Parks Department has given us free use of the pavilion.

Temporary caches will be hidden in areas that are meant to draw your attention to the trash. So you truly be caching as the trash is coming out. The parks also have several permanent caches already in place if you haven't had a chance to hit them yet. The parks that we will be tending are Riverside Park, Oak and Fern Islands, Whitewater park, and others. Whitewater park hosts several whitewater events known throughout the world including the Olympic Junior Trials, American Canoe Association Open Canoe Nationals & North American Championships, Midwest Freestyle Championships, and in 2012 will host the International Canoe Federation Junior Slalom World Championships.

Teams or individuals (but we all know it's more fun with teams) can head out when they're ready. Guides will be available to suggest an area for your team to CITO in order to divide up the work. There's no need to visit each area to CITO but you might want to go to get the creative temp caches being placed by some of the most twisted minds in Wausau.

A Plethora of Prizes!:

An Unactivated Travel Bug will be given to the person that finds and brings back the most unique piece of trash. Other door prizes will include:

  • The event Logbook (CITO T-Shirt signed by all attendees)
  • Unactivated CITO Geocoins
  • CITO Logo Items (Stickers, lapel pins, keychains)
  • Solve clues to some big puzzle caches. (If you want to donate a puzzle clue, please post a note here stating which puzzle you wish to donate a clue to.)
  • Stocked Ammo Cans and other cache sizes
  • Swag
  • Unactivated Travel Bugs
  • City of Wausau Promo Items
  • Wausau Kayak and Canoe Corporation T-Shirts

Schedule:

  • 9:00 am - Gather for coffee and donuts at base camp (at the posted coordinates). Download waypoints, plan your route, get some local caching advice, etc.
  • After that - CITO! Base camp will remain open for water and supplies and snacks. Bottled water will be provided to take with you on the trail (Courtesy of Wausau Water Works)
  • Noon - regroup at base camp for picnic lunch, swap stories, coins, bugs, whatever.
  • 1:00 pm - Door prizes and log signing.

  • Your camera for taking photos of your day and posting them to the cache page.
  • Gloves (only if you'd like to have your own, otherwise gloves will be provided)
  • Walking stick or poking apparatus. One with a nail on the end is nice for trash pickup.
  • Safety vest for visibility and safety glasses if you desire (none of the CITO caches are near the road)
  • Coins / Bugs to trade
  • Shoes / boots that can get muddy
  • Food for lunch.
(electricity for griddles or crockpots and charcoal grills are available)

    • A side dish (with serving utensil) like veggies, chips, salad, or beans.
    • A non-alcoholic beverage like soda, gatorade, or punch (water and cups will be provided)
    • A dessert (with serving utensil) like cake, brownies, or cookies.

Please post a cache note or use the "will attend" to indicate what type of dish you are bringing to pass so we can balance it out. First come, first choose!

  • A friend that wants to learn about geocaching, having fun, cleaning up parks, meeting new people, etc.
  • Alcohol will not be allowed at the pavillion.

Add this cache to your watchlist to keep up to date on who's coming and any relevant notes that are posted. If you're willing to help out in any areas including take-down of temp caches, gather materials, hand out materials, collect donations, setup/serve food, create or donate prizes, or help folks download waypoints on CITO day, post a note here or send a message to GetMeOutdoors.
