To be honored
with a star in Hollywood's Walk of Fame, the world's most famous
sidewalk, is a tribute as coveted and sought after as any of the
entertainment industry's equally prestigious awards -- including
the Oscar, Emmy, Grammy, Golden Mike or Tony. And, because it
recognizes a life-long contribution of both public and peer
appreciation, it is an honor uniquely in a class by itself. The
Walk of Fame is a permanent monument of the past, as well as the
present.
Pictures are taken from this
site. Beware, it has a lot of popups.
This cache involves a hike down the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The
listed coordinates start at the MTA subway station near the corner
of Hollywood and Vine and the final cache is just under a mile away
near the west end of the walk.
To obtain the final coordinates for this cache, you will need to
hit 12 locations along the boulevard. To prove you actually made it
to these spots, you will need to keep your eye on the ground
looking for the stars with the names on them. Three names are given
for each location. All three stars should be found within 30 feet
of the location. You need to find all three and determine which of
them is found in between the other two. Circle the name of the star
in the middle. Then when you have one name circled for each
location, you can add up the numbers of the circled names in the
center column. These 6 numbers will correspond to the missing
numbers in the final coordinates.
The final coordinates are
N 34° 06.ABC W 118° 20.DEF
Plug in the numbers obtained from the table above and you should
be on your way. The final cache is hidden near the west end of this
hike, so there are two ways to approach this cache. First, you
could park or take the subway to Hollywood and Vine and work your
way West. Then when you finish, the subway from Hollywood and
Highland will take you back to your starting point. Or, you could
park or take the subway to Hollywood and Highland and work your way
East on one side of Hollywood Blvd. and back the other side. Then,
when you have all 12 points visited, you will be back at the
correct side to find the cache.
Once you get the final coordinates, they will point you in a
direction that might be difficult to approach. Be assured that you
will not need to hop any fences. You might actually have to walk a
bit around some obstacles and come at the cache from the other
side. Just think about how a car would get to the place the needle
points. As a matter of fact, you can drive to within 5 feet of the
actual cache location. I would suggest walking, though, because you
can't really stop your car there.
Enjoy this nice walking tour of my neighborhood. It was a lot of
fun putting this one together, and even though I live right here, I
saw a lot of things that I have never slowed down to really look at
today. I hope you find the same enjoyment
