Geocache Description:

Small container hidden within the Rauscher Farm Conservation Area.

The Area:

Rauscher Farm comprises wonderfully diverse environments - grasslands, wetlands, woodlands, and access to Clamshell Pond - each with its store of rich ecological treasures. Enjoy the beauty and serenity of 60 acres of open space purchased by the Town of Clinton in June 2008.

The Cache:

Nipmuc, or "fresh water people" occupied the interior portion of what is now massachusetts. It is estimated that there were 5,000 to 6,000 Nipmucs living in the area when the pilgrims landed at Plymouth rock in 1620. Their daily life consisted of hunting, gathering, planting and harvesting. Often thought of as wanderers, they were instead careful planners and good stewards of the land upon which they lived. This particular rock formation (N42.24.039 W071.40.759) is believed to have been a spot of significant importance to the Nipmuc people. Possibly a tribal meeting place or sacred prayer ground.

Standing on the rock and looking out over the pond, it's not hard to understand why.

This cache is winter friendly. Log only so please bring your own pen/pencil.

***The terrain rating will increase with very wet or snowy conditions***
