Geocache Description:

Maine's second annual Winter Camp Out Event! The above coordinates are for parking. This is the closet vehicle access (other than snowmobile)

...WINTER STORM WATCH IN EFFECT FROM LATE FRIDAY NIGHT THROUGH SATURDAY EVENING...

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN CARIBOU HAS ISSUED A WINTER STORM WATCH...WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM LATE FRIDAY NIGHT THROUGH SATURDAY EVENING.

THE POTENTIAL FOR 7 OR MORE INCHES OF SNOW EXISTS ACROSS THE WATCH AREA LATE FRIDAY NIGHT THROUGH SATURDAY EVENING. THE SNOW MAY CHANGE TO RAIN ALONG THE COAST SATURDAY AFTERNOON INTO SATURDAY EVENING.

We are planning on holding the event as planned, however, we may need to shuttle some cars to keep the road clear for the plow trucks.

If you plan to come, please be careful driving and leave a little extra time.

Are we CRAZY?

Do people actually camp out in the SNOW ?

YES!

If you missed last year's campout, don't miss this one. Come join in the campfire, night caching, skiing, snowshoeing and see Maine at it's best: in the winter.

This year’s event will start at 9:00am on Saturday and run until everyone leaves on Sunday.

Nestled in a bog along the Piscataquis River, the campsite is protected from the harsh winter and filled with warmth from the campfire.  The campsite can be accessed by snowshoes, x-country skis or snowmobiles (provided there is enough snow).  We plan to have a few new activities this year and most of the old ones.  We will have a new poker run, a night cache and some surprises.

There will be a pot luck dinner near sunset (5:00 pm).  Bring your favorite campfire dinner or cook on your camp stove.  If you have something particular in mind, let us know in your log.  Afterward, there will be a pot luck desert around the campfire.  Smores will be provided!

The campfire will be going most of the time, but especially in the evening.  There will be plenty of hot chocolate all day.  Bring your favorite campfire game, special thanks in advance to anyone who can teach us cool new game!   Don’t forget to thank Vic for all the wood!!

If you’ve never been winter camping before, this is the time to try it.  The trail from the road is about 1 mile and descends about 150 feet.  You may want to read “The Winter Camping Tip Of The Day” thread.

Please check back here before the event for important announcements.  If the weather forecast is requires us to cancel the event, we will post a notice here.

Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!!!
