[ITA] R.EM. - Il borgo di Costozza
Il nome Costozza deriva probabilmente da “custodia”, legato al fatto che un tempo sorgeva qui un castello, o riferito ai covoli scavati nel monte, usati come prigioni e luogo in cui custodire beni e derrate alimentari.
Le prime popolazioni si insediarono proprio dentro i covoli, grotte e cavità ricavate nella roccia calcarea del Colli Berici. Da qui popolarono gradualmente le aree circostanti, fino a scendere in pianura.
Oggi il centro storico del paese è un luogo denso di opere d’arte che si susseguono. In un breve tratto, sotto il monte ce si innalza rapido e porta alla pieve di San Mauro, si trovano chiese, oratori, giardini storici e ville, fontane, vecchie ghiacciaie e capitelli. Si può intuire l’antica presenza del Castello segnalato a Costozza da documenti storici: il volto ne è forse stato una parte.
Entrando in alcune ville patrizie, si può assistere al famoso fenomeno delle correnti d’aria fresca che si generano nelle antiche cave di pietra, e vengono convogliate nelle sale nobili attraverso stretti cunicoli.
Ai tempi del conte Francesco Trento, un tempo proprietario di queste terre, Costozza divenne un centro di nobiltà e cultura, di raffinatezza e mecenatismo che attirò personaggi come Torquato Tasso, Giangiorgio Trissino, Andrea Palladio, Nicolas Poussin, Giambattista Maganza, Vincenzo Scamozzi.
Qui passò anche Galileo Galilei, che si narra si recasse sulla piccola torretta dell’edificio “La Specola” ad osservare il cielo (comincia questa caccia con la cache omonima).
L’antico borgo di Costozza è ricco di ville e antiche case legate alla presenza della famiglia Trento: Cà Morlina – Trento – Buoni Fanciulli; la chiesa dell'Immacolata Concezione; la cappella dedicata a San Michele Arcangelo; la grandiosa villa Trento Carli, la famosa villa Eolia; la torre della specola; la cappella di S. Antonio Abate; la Pieve di San Mauro Abate; la chiesa di S. Sofia, villa Godi Miotto e villa Spillare.

The name Costozza probably derives from "custody", due to the fact that a castle once stood here, or reported to the “covoli” dug into the mountain.
The first people settled just inside the covoli, caves and hollows in the limestone of the Berici. From here, gradually populated the surrounding areas, to descend into the plain.
Today, the historic center of the town is a place full of art pieces. Going into some villas, you can watch the famous phenomenon of the currents of fresh air that are generated in the ancient stone quarries, and are conveyed in noble rooms through narrow tunnels.
At the time of Count Francesco Trento, once the owner of these lands, Costozza nobility and became a center of culture, refinement and patronage that attracted the likes of Torquato Tasso, Gian Giorgio Trissino, Andrea Palladio, Nicolas Poussin, Giambattista Maganza, Vincenzo Scamozzi.
