Geocache Description:

Come and enjoy the art on display at this public garden. You can visit the sculptures in any order you like, but I will lay them out in the most convenient order to visit each. Every stage including the final is wheelchair accessable, so there is no need to walk off the sidewalk to get any of the needed information at any of the stages. Please do not trample any of the plants, or climb on any of the sculptures.

Don't let the 8 stages to this intimidate you, as they are all very close to each other. Many can even be found without entering the coords if you look at the matching titles of each sculpture. Just relax, walk around, and enjoy the public art that is on display here.

The cache is located at N 37° 3A.BCD W 122° 2E.FGH

Sculpture #1 “Helping Hands” - N 37° 39.324 W 122° 25.606

The Tower of hands in front of you is one of the more recent sculptures added to the garden. This sculpture, named “Helping Hands”, was created to celebrate the fact that South San Francisco is a “City of Service.” City of Service is a bi-partisan effort by a group of mayors across the nation to utilize high impact volunteer programs to address pressing local issues. Specifically, the sculpture installation acknowledges the indefatigable contributions of the SSF Improving Public Places volunteers.

The informative plaque that once had the digit for this stage has been removed so the question has been updated. For fun, there is a hand imprint you can compare to if you’d like.

Q: On the sculpture, count the number of fingers on the top most hand then subtract the number of fingers shown on the bottom most hand. = C. (Be sure to count them carefully, as this one has messed people up before.)

Sculpture #2 “Ponder” – N 37° 39.318 W 122° 25.613

This sculpture will be very obvious, as part of it is sitting down on a public bench. Originally installed through the city’s loan art program, in 2005 the City acquired the sculpture for a nominal fee. The artist, Keith Bush, cited a genuine fondness for the area and the people of South San Francisco as the reason for his generous contribution.

Not sure if you’re allowed to sit in the figures lap? As the plaque will tell you, you’re actually encouraged to do so! Weather you actually do or not is up to you…

Q: How many bolts are holding “Yang” in place?
Answer = B.

Sculpture# 3 “Electric Slide” - N 37° 39.307 W 122° 25.618

Originally on display at Pokey Park, in Tuscon, Arizona. This large bird was part of the 3 piece Midnight Stomp series. The image below is of the original trio that this sculpture was part of at one time.

Q: On the plaque, the first word in the last line (not the year) has how many letters?
Answer = A.

Sculpture # 4 “Heavy Load” - N 37° 39.307 W 122° 25.623

This sculpture here captures the bonding moment between a boy and his puppy.

Q: What is the last number in the year on the plaque?
Answer = D.

Sculpture #5 “Safehaven” - N 37° 39.305 W 122° 25.628

This sculpture here captures the bond between a mother and her child.

Q: How many words are on the smaller plaque? Do not count the year.
Answer = F.

Sculpture #6 “Best Friends” – N 37° 39.301 W 122° 25.630

All the times I’ve walked through this garden I’ve noticed people like to leave objects in the little girls hand to make it look like the boy is giving her a gift. The objects I’ve seen have ranged from flowers to coins and even a tennis ball! Some may believe that leaving something behind is good luck, so feel free to place something yourself!

Q: How many times does the letter “C” appear on the plaque?
Answer = H.

Sculpture # 7 “Salmon's Shadow” - N 37° 39.280 W 122° 25.644

This stage, formally titled "Flying Fish" has been slightly updated as the previous sculpture has sadly been removed. You're still looking for a fish however, and while this newer sculpture is no longer kinetic, it is practical! Feel free to sit and ponder your answer.

Q: Count how many times the letter "O" (NOT zero!) appears on the plaque for this sculpture. The plaque can be found on the ground.
Answer = G.

Sculpture # 8 “Obelisk” - N 37° 39.297 W 122° 25.664

Formerly the centerpiece of the National Sculpture Guild’s garden in Colorado, this pillar of hieroglyphics were inspired by a trip the artist took to Egypt. The top pyramid is a thick reflective glass and the four sided column, which features fascinating hieroglyphs, is lit from within. Typically obelisks, dating back to Egyptian antiquity, were made of stone. The sharp point at the top of the obelisk had the function of perforating the clouds and dispersing negative forces; it was conceptualized as providing protection or defense.

Q: Last number in the year on the plaque + the number of rabbit hieroglyphs on the obelisk = E.

Enjoy the short walk over to the final location.

You can validate your puzzle solution with certitude.

Congratulations to deadley on FTF!
