Geocache Description:

This is the final cache in the 2007 April Fool series.

In order to find this cache you will need to have found a certain number of "feeder" caches in the April Fool 2007 series. Of course it would be foolish of us to tell you exactly how many of those caches you will need to have found - you will have to figure that out for yourselves. In keeping with the Geofellas April Fool tradition, none of this will go "live" until April 1st 2007, but, in a slight departure from previous years, the "go live" time will be 7am EDT rather than midnight so as to make it more family friendly. This will give plenty of time for the FTF to be achieved before the start of our Geofellas' April Fool 2007 Gathering event cache at noon. You should watch THIS page at 7am to get the starting instructions. Some of these caches are micros and some regular sizes. The micros are generally hidden in trees (but not always - some are magnetic and some on fences or bushes) - the regular caches - well - you figure it out!!

By popular request, however, one of the "feeder" caches - April Fool 2007 - Midnight Special  - will go live at one minute past midnight. If you do decide to attempt this one at that time you will have to treat it as a Multi - the starting coordinates and instructions will be posted on ITS cache page (not here) at one minute past midnight on Sunday April 1st, 2007. Finding April Fool 2007 - Midnight Special early rather than as part of the series will give you some useful information that could provide an advantage in achieving FTF on this cache.

The way this works is like this:

The caches in the series combine together to form a sort of a maze through which you will have to negotiate your way in order to reach the final. There is more than one starting point. You do not have to visit every cache in the series to find the final - you can leave some of them for later if you like.  Information to help you find the starting points will be posted HERE at 7am EDT on April 1st 2007. In each cache you will find a card giving information on how to find the locations of one or more other caches in the series. PLEASE DO NOT REMOVE THIS CARD otherwise you will ruin the series for everyone else. As you progress through the maze you will pick up more information about the various caches in the maze, eventually having enough to find them all. There are many, many different routes that you can take through the maze to reach the final - skilful thinking and planning and luck will combine to let you reach the final with a minimum number of steps. To locate the final you will find, on the aforementioned card, a letter of the alphabet. The same letter may appear in more than one of the caches in the maze. Keep track of the letters you find as you go. The coordinates of the final cache can then be calculated as follows:

Take each UNIQUE letter and find the number associated with it from the table below. Add together the numbers found, divide the total by 1000, and then add the result to each of the North and West minutes parts of the following dummy coordinates - N 43° 58.064' W 079° 14.544'. Remember, use only UNIQUE letters - e.g. if you find 3 letter Fs you use the number associated with letter F ONLY ONCE in the calculation. To make it interesting, we are not going to tell you how many unique letters there are - you will have to take an intelligent guess as to when to try to find the final using the letters you have gathered. If you get it wrong you might find yourself looking foolish if you stop gathering letters too early, conversely you might find yourself looking foolish if you keep on going once you have actually found all the unique letters.

Letter Code Table

  V W X Y Z
000 90 75 50 55 66 000

We have designed this series to be as "green" as possible, In contrast to previous years, minimal use of carbon emitting vehicles is necessary once you have arrived in Stouffville. A bike is not a bad way to go for most of the caches (although the terrain for some of them is not 100% bike friendly). And there's always your two feet of course!!

You should also be aware that you might need some information from one or more of our previous April Fool caches during the course of hunting for this one so you should thoroughly familiarize yourself with their descriptions before you start out. It is not necessary that you have actually FOUND any of those caches (but if you haven't, of course we thoroughly recommend looking for them when you can find some time). Those caches are:

Pickering Airport - April Fool 2004

Lets Make a Deal - April Fool 2005

The Big Pipe - April Fool 2006

SPECIAL NOTE TO THOSE TRYING FOR FTF - if you are trying for FTF as a team then using a "divide and conquer" technique to try and find all the letters faster IS JUST NOT PLAYING FAIR (some might even call it cheating Shock Horror). Each member of the team MUST find each of the needed caches to get the required letters BEFORE they find the final. Therefore, if you are going to try for FTF, you must record the TIME of your find for each stage in the physical log book just to keep you honest! Of course, having someone at home providing you the starting instructions by phone is fine (since not everyone has internet access on their mobile phones) as you might want to be in the area right at the starting bell!!. Anyway - play the game nicely please folks.
