Little Johnny's Sight Mystery Cache

This cache has been archived.

Wild Cat Bud: No time for geocaching anymore, it seems, and without maintenance our hides are falling into disrepair, so I guess it's time to put most of them to rest. Thanx to all who visited.

Geocache Description:

This cache IS NOT at the above location.

Little Johnny’s grandfather tells Johnny that he has become quite an expert with his GPSr. It is Johnny’s desire to go to sea one day as his great uncle did for Lykes Brother. Johnny’s grandfather tells him that knowing how to use a GPSr will not help him to earn his 3rd Mates license. He will need to learn celestial navigation. Johnny’s grandfather opens a small wooden box and gives Johnny an instrument that was used by Johnny’s uncle. He goes on to tell Johnny that his brother’s last time at sea was on a small fishing vessel that caught on fire. The crew was forced to abandon ship with only enough time to grab a few navigational aids. This instrument along with a compass helped Johnny’s uncle and the other men to safely return to a safe harbor.

Johnny’s uncle’s last sighting of Polaris was at 0100 GMT, on June 16, 1994, at DR Latitude 29° 03.8’ N, Longitude 95° 04.6' W, the observed altitude of Polaris (ho) is 28° 23.8'.

Johnny decides to hide a cache in honor of his uncle’s heroic act. He as well will leave the instrument his grandfather gave him as an FTF prize. To find the cache convert the Polaris sight to its corrected latitude then add 44.782’ for the cache latitude. To find the longitude multiply the corrected (latitude minutes) by 5.7588 and apply to 095° W.

Pens can create such havoc in a cache container, so I didn't put a pen in this one. Please bring your own signing tool.
