Géocaches du Pays de Retz
Cache située à proximité du canal de Haute-Perche, au Clion sur mer.

Probablement creusé dès l'époque romaine, le canal de Haute-Perche, alimenté par la rivière du même nom, était une voie de circulation commerciale vers l'intérieur du Pays de Retz. Les bateux partaient de Pornic jusqu'au village de Haute-Perche, chargés de récoltes, de cendres pour l'engrais, de matériaux de construction...

De nos jours, le canal ne sert plus. Son niveau est régulé par l'écluse qui s'ouvre sur le vieux port de Pornic, une des plus petites de France. Quelques années auparavant, la municipalité a aménagé un sentier de promenade qui longe le canal depuis le Pont du Clion jusqu'au Val Saint-Martin.

Pour découvrir le canal et les petites pêcheries (cabanes de pêche) parsemées sur son cours, je vous propose une balade à pied. Garez votre voiture au parking situé au Pont du Clion, la cache est à 2,5km à pied.

NOTA - Il est possible de faire un parcours plus court mais moins intéressant en partant du Val Saint-Martin en empruntant le sentier balisé "Circuit du canal de Haute-Perche", direction Pont du Clion.

This channel was probably dug during the roman period. The water comes from a little river called Haute-Perche too. The channel served as a route for trading to the inland of the Pays de Retz. The boats came from Pornic, bringing crops, ashes for fertilizing, construction materials...

Nowadays, the channel is no more used. The water level is regulated by a lock that opens in the old port of Pornic, one of the smallest lock in France. Few years ago, the city council established a walk path along the channel from the Pont du Clion to the Val Saint-Martin.

To discover the channel and the "pêcheries" (small fishing sheds) on its riverside, I suggest you to park your car at the Pont du Clion carpark, the cache is 2.5km from that point.

NOTA - It's possible to get the cache by a shorter but less interesting way. From the Val Saint-Martin, follow the path called "Circuit du canal de Haute-Perche, Le Pont du Clion".
