In 1908 cement paving was put in Eddyville. the local farmers said "That's just what we need to put over that deep sand on the road past the cemetery" the farmers battled this strip of road for years, finding it difficult to drive their horse teams. they built a strip 500ft. long 14 ft. wide in 1909. Belived to be the first paved county road in Iowa. Mahaska Co. recently restored using techniques to maintain the historic integrity. Used to be called "The Highland Cemetery roadways" has been renamed "Memory Lane"
