Geocache Description:

Firestone Trail CITO
Firestone, Colorado

Start time: 1:00pm

The CITO Logo and Signal the Frog are Trademarks of
Groundspeak Inc. Used with Permission.
In collaboration with geocaching.com's CITO day, we'll spend the afternoon giving back to the community.

Firestone has over 35 parks, 12 miles of trails and other recreational facilities that are active and planned for the benefit of citizens, businesses and employees. A key component of the park and recreation system is the Firestone Trail which is over 12 miles long and provides a unified pedestrian connection to area parks, the regional St. Vrain Legacy Trail and the Colorado Front Range Trail system.

Geocaching Colorado has adopted a 3 mile stretch of the trail, from Grant Ave (CR-18) to Hwy 119 (CR-24). The entire trail is concrete and suitable for wheelchairs. On each side of the trail, there is roughly 30 feet of open space that we'll be cleaning up.

Please post in your 'Will Attend' log how many volunteers will be there in your group (i.e. Team Laxson = 4 volunteers).

This will help us estimate how many people to plan for. The more we have, the less work each one of us has to do!
GCCO will provide:
  • Bottled water
  • Hand Sanitizing lotion
  • Paper towels
  • First Aid
Attendees provide for themselves:
  • Gloves
  • Energy
  • A want to give back to the community
  • Sunscreen/hats

The City of Firestone will provide bags and additional gloves for volunteers, as well as disposal of collected garbage after the event. We will meet at the Safeway (coords) and coordinate our efforts from there. We will break into 4 groups to divide and conquer the trail.

Once your section of the trail is complete, regroup at Safeway for food and a meet 'n' greet. There will be a raffle for GCCO swag, geocoins and other donated items. Everyone attending the event will recieve 1 free ticket to the raffle.

Gift Certificates donated from the Longmont

$1 per ticket, or $5 for 6
Proceeds to cover the cost of the event

More information and pictures will be posted here once the snow melts and we are able to walk the trail and see the ground. Stay tuned for updates!
