Geocache Description:

Enjoy this Native Texas Plants Garden. This is an easy drive-by with lots of fun kids stuff. Be sure to take a photo.

The Texas Native Plant to see here is the Aromatic Sumac, also called Skunk Bush. It is the thicket shrub growing opposite the cache. It’s small, 3-lobed leaves are graceful and scalloped. They are strongly scented, and turn a wonderful orange to flame red in the fall. In winter it forms a tangle of bare grey branches which can shelter wildlife and bears red fruit for them to eat. Once established, it requires very little care, is extremely drought tollerant and makes a great background planting.

Look around at all the other wonderful Texas Native Plants in this garden, from the Dessert Willow trees on the corners to the Whirling Butterfly Gaura along the curb. If you see something you’d like to know more about, there are information brochures in the mailbox. The garden is maintained by the North Central Texas Native Plant Society, Tarrant County Master Gardeners and Crosstimbers Master Naturalists.

And while you are looking, take a photo, either of yourself or something in the garden and post the photos to this page’s gallery. Like to see lots of images through the seasons.

The cache itself is an easy drive-by, easily accessible, no bending required. It is a large coffeecan-size cache full of toys and fun items, suitable for kids or curious adults.
