Geocache Description:

Team-Ducky is pleased to announce the 2nd annual Stuck In The Middle Cachers’ Halloween Cache Bash. This year’s theme is “Caches in Costume.” We will once again be at the Briggs Shelter at Gilbert Lake State Park (north of Laurens, NY.) (No admission fee!) There will be a Halloween themed potluck, contests, games, tricks and treats, prizes, and—of course—some caches waiting to be unmasked!

This is a collaborative event—relying on help from the whole SITMC community.
We'll arrive around 12:30 to start setting up.
Event 1:00p - 5:00p
Clean Up 5:00 - 5:30p
Night Cache to follow!

Potluck – Bring your scary, creepy, punny Halloween themed offerings
for the potluck. We won’t have electricity, but will have plenty of tables and a grill. Please note what you will be bringing in your RSVP log. Here is what we have coming so far:

Grilling Meats, Chicken Cheese Dip, Bucket of Body Parts (chicken, maybe?), Turkey dogs, buns, and condiments, charcoal, doughnuts, cookies, more cookies, cold veggies, cheese plate & crackers, grapes, firwood (for the fireplace--not for eating--unless you are a termite), veggie chili, paper plates & napkins & utensils, cider, water, soda, an apple dish. (maybe even smores fixings) SOUNDS LIKE A FEAST!!!

Decorations – Bring your favorite Halloween decorations for the shelter!

Jack-O-Lantern Contest – The popular Jack-O-Lantern contest returns! Two different categories. Prizes for the best Geocaching-themed decorated pumpkin and the best “Costumed/Disguised” pumpkin.

“Cachers in Costume” Contest – Prizes for the best “Cacher in Costume.” What might that be? Dress up like your favorite geocaching moniker or maybe your favorite geocacher or maybe the best geocacher disguise. Give it your best shot!

Unmask the Cacher – How well do you know the local cachers? Test your knowledge and win a prize!

Caching Cauldron of Doom – What will be in it this year? Reach in and find out… if you dare!!!

Trick or Treat! – When you sign the log, drop a signature item or piece of swag in our treat bag. At the end of the event, one log signer gets the treat. (One of the two Team-Ducky Event Duckies will be in the treat bag.)

Another Night Cache! – Team-Ducky will be unveiling the 2nd area Night Cache. One attendee will get FTF rights, but everyone will be invited to join in the night-time fun.

And other contests and prizes and fun!

NOTE – Since it is off-season, the shelter’s water and electricity will be shut off. There will be a port-o-potty in the park, but all other bathrooms will be locked.

NOTE - MOST OF THE PARK IS OPEN THIS YEAR TO BOW HUNTING. NO HUNTERS HAVE SIGNED IN TO HUNT AS OF YET AND THE PARK MANAGER DOUBTS ANY WILL BE THERE. SIGNS WILL BE UP LETTING ANY HUNTERS KNOW WE ARE IN THE PARK. WE WILL KNOW THE DAY OF THE EVENT IF ANY HUNTERS ARE IN THE PARK.

This event is being hosted with permission of the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation, and Historic Preservation. A special permit has been granted for use of the Briggs Pavilion. SITMC would like to thank the helpful staff of the Gilbert Lake State Park.
