Geocache Description:

This is a puzzle cache in which you will have to go to the posted co-ords to solve the puzzle. Once you have solved the puzzle you will be lead to a small lock-n-lock container.

The Erwin Denby High School class of 1977 is my graduating class so it is only right to have this cache. Denby High School is a Detroit Public School named after Erwin C. Denby and is on the east side of the city. This cache is dedicated to Erwin Denby and all that attended the school with his namesake.

Erwin C. Denby was born in Evansville, Indiana on February 18, 1870. At 15 his father was appointed United States minister in Peking, China and Erwin went with him. Erwin worked for the maritime customs service from 1887-1874 when he returned to the United States. After returning stateside he attended the law school at the University of Michigan and in 1896 graduated and accepted to the bar. He practiced law in Detroit before, during and after his political career.

Serving as a member of Michigan’s House of Representatives in 1903 and 1904. Denby was then elected to Congress and served from 1905 through 1911. He returned to Detroit to his law practice. Denby took the position of president of the Detroit Board of Commerce in 1916. In 1917 he enlisted as a private in the Marines when the US entered World War 1. He retired from the Marines as a Major in 1919. After Warren G. Harding was elected as a US President he then appointed Denby as the Secretary of the Navy. He held this position from 1921 through 1924 when he resigned after being tied into the Teapot Dome Scandal. The scandal had to due with the leasing of governmental oil fields to oil companies.

Edwin Denby returned to Detroit and his law practice until his death, 10 days before his 59th birthday in 1929.

As you will see, the posted co-ordinance will be taking you to a memorial dedicated to Edwin C. Denby. Once you are here you will have to use the information below to solve the puzzle.
