Geocache Description:

You’ll need your hiking shoes and some time to get to this one; it is on a nice path that makes up the south end of Tuckahoe State Park. Another plus is that you don’t have to do any back tracking to get back to your car- there is a circular option.

To park, you’ll need to get to Cemetery Lane. It is off RT 404 at mile 7.5. Go north onto Cemetery Lane and then all the way to the end, about a half-mile, and park where the road ends. You will be at N38.55.561, W075.56.646; this is also the trail-head. The trail starts off in a straight line from Cemetery Lane. Before you know it you are on the trail off to a great hike. The trail is easy to follow. You’ll get to the cache area in about 20-25 minutes. The cache is near an intersection of trails.
After finding the cache you can return to your car by going left at the intersection (basically south) on to Creekside Cliff Trail- this is the circular option back to your car- and about the same distance as doubling-back. This trail will take you to some of the sharpest slopes I’ve seen on the Eastern Shore. But you’ll only have to climb a couple of modest slopes, the sharpest ones you get to look at. Be sure to enter the coordinates when you leave your car so you can find it on the way back- it’s not difficult, but just to be on the safe side.
Or you can go straight at the intersection (Turkey Hill Trail) and it will take you down to a very nice spot along Tuckahoe Creek- but this path can be very wet. Or you can turn right (Tuckahoe Valley Trail) and go for a while, or all the way to the dam at Crouse Mill Rd-several miles. Or you can double back to your car.
Whatever you do you’ll find this is a great place to hike. I’ve been coming here for a several years and rarely see anyone when I’m there, usually Sunday afternoons in cool months- when I can’t go sailing. Two words of caution- if you bring your dog, watch out for ticks- they are thick- my guy even picked some up after several frosts and a snow fall! And, the state does allow hunting here- so keep an eye on hunting dates, or go on Sundays. And if you go in summer, bug repellent- for biting flies, is a must
