You are at the village fountain carrying one empty four-liter jug,
and one empty seven-liter jug.
How can you put exactly five liters into the larger jug in just
eight steps?
A,B,C,D,E,F,G,H are each a digit representing one of the six
possible actions:
1: fill up the four-liter jug.
2: dump out the four-liter jug.
3: pour as much as possible from the four-liter jug into the
seven-liter jug.
4: fill up the seven-liter jug.
5: dump out the seven-liter jug.
6: pour as much as possible from the seven-liter jug into
the four-liter jug.
A is the digit of the first step, B is the digit of the second
step, and so on. So for example if your first step is to fill up
the four-liter jug then A=1.
The actual coordinates are
N 37 (22.539 + A.BCD)
W 122 (00.586 + G.HEF)
This traditional puzzle is not that hard to solve if you just
consider which actions are possible from the starting state, which
are possible from the resulting states, and so on.
The container is a magnetic key case, so it's really
sign-only.
This should be an easy grab, with no need to go
onto private property.
