Geocache Description:

This stash is located at McConnell’s Mill off of Route 422 near the intersection with Route 19 between Butler and New Castle, PA.

For more information on the state park visit this web page.

Climbing & Rappelling: Two climbing and rappelling areas are available to properly equipped and experienced park visitors. The Rim Road Climbing Area is located across the creek from the Old Mill. The more advanced and rugged area is located in the vicinity of Breakneck Bridge. Rappelling is not permitted from the bridge. NUMEROUS ACCIDENTS HAVE OCCURRED IN THIS AREA RESULTING IN SERIOUS INJURIES. Please exercise extreme caution when climbing or hiking in these areas. I would recommend that you park in the Kildoo Picnic Area located at:

N40 57.103
W80 10.127

At the picnic area is a “kiosk” and also restroom facilities. Behind the kiosk is a paved trail that will take you down to the actual mill. There are some very steep cliffs and the paved trail is the safest path down to the Slippery Rock Creek.

The trail begins at:
N40 57.142
W80 10.137

Follow the trail down to the mill. Stop at the mill and enjoy the scenery and make sure to bring your camera. The mill is sometimes open for tours. The North Country Trail travels west through the covered bridge. You should be able to see the “blue” blazes.

Go through the covered bridge going west and just as you start up the hill, you will see a trail off to the left marked Kildoo Trail. The North Country Trail follows this trail along the shore of the Slippery Rock creek.

I would highly recommend you leave the young children and pets at home. This trail is covered with slippery rocks and frozen patches of ice in the winter time. Follow the “blue” blazes for approximately 0.75 miles until you visually see the Eckert Bridge.

You should also see life saver emergency station #14 at:
N40 56.570
W80 10.550

At this point you are near the cache. Follow the coordinates from there. The cache is hidden in a very obvious location.

If you are really adventurous, the Hell’s Hollow cache is only 3-4 miles down this rugged trail.

The North Country Trail is marked with blue blazes. It is being built by volunteer member’s of the NCTA. This is part of the North Country National Scenic Trail, the longest hiking trail in the nation. This is a very beautiful trail. Volunteers build the bridges and maintain trail. If you are interested in being a member or helping with the trail please visit our national web page at www.northcountrytrail.org or more information on Pennsylvania visit www.northcountrytrail.org/pa

The stash is in a clear one-gallon container. Log book and information on the trail. Please be sure to sign your name and email the condition and exact location of the container.

If you find five of the stashes along the North Country Trail in Pennsylvania, please send your name and address and we sill send you a North Country Trail Pennsylvania patch or if you find ten to will get a T-Shirt.
