Sol Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

OReviewer: As there's been no cache to find for months, I'm archiving it to keep it from continually showing up in search lists, and to prevent it from blocking other cache placements. If you wish to repair/replace the cache sometime in the future, just contact us (by email), and assuming it meets the guidelines, we'll be happy to unarchive it.

Geocache Description:

The cache is located in Old Wharf Park, Oceanport, NJ.

The park entrance is located off of East Main Street. Parking is available at the trailhead.

The cache is named after the central heavenly body of our solar system. Commonly known as the Sun, its scientific name is actually Sol. To the Ancient Greeks it was moved through the heavens by Helios / Apollo, depending on what version of the myth you read. Throughout history, civilizations have worshipped the sun, holding feasts and ceremonies on important solar dates and building impressive monuments and temples in its honor. The park contains a sculpture of a red ring near its western edge that I like to think of as representing the sun.

The park has been hit hard by the elements over many years, and the town is just beginning to (slowly) repair sections. The cache is found with one of these newly repaired objects, so it will be safe from any future work.

The cache you seek is a magnetic keybox. Inside the cache is a simple log sheet inside of a clear ziploc sandwich bag. No pencil here, so bring your own!

Please place this cache back exactly as you have found it so it remains safe from muggles. The location does contain muggles from time to time, so keep an eye out!

The paths and fields are a favorite of the local goose and seagull populations, so its best to stay on the stone walking paths whenever possible.

Oh, and one last noteworthy bit of information. The symbol taped to the inside of the lid may come into play to help you find "Eris", the last (12th of 12) of the planet caches. Since many have not fared well, I have included a photo of all the symbols on the page for "Eris". Please reference it if the symbol has become damaged/missing in a few of the planets.

Enjoy!

(Yes, the original Sol was placed some distance to the East in Long Branch, NJ. The cache was muggled a day after it was placed, so I moved it to a much more familiar hiding spot- many apologies to all who tried to find this the first time at the old location- hopefully, this will last longer.)
