The 2015 Cache Your Way program is over but the cache remains for the fun of it!
About
Outdoor enthusiasts of all ages can hike or cross-country ski that wind through wide expanses of open prairie, into the savanna and along the wetlands. Dogs are welcome on trails on a leash. When there are four inches or more of snow, a 1 ½ mile, relatively flat, trail loop is groomed for skate skiing.
The prairie, savanna and wetlands allow for ample bird-watching opportunities. Watch for year-round residents such as Northern Cardinals, Redbellied Woodpeckers, and Black-capped Chickadees as well as Eastern Bluebirds, Meadowlarks, Sandhill Cranes, Great Blue Herons, and an occasional Bald Eagle.
Cricket Frogs
The cricket frog is one of North America’s two smallest vertebrates, averaging 0.75-1.50” long. Its coloring can be grays, greens & browns, often in irregular blotching patterns. There is typically dark banding on the legs & a white bar from the eye to the base of the foreleg. The skin is bumpy.
Its call sounds very much like the chirp or trill of a cricket. The sound has been compared to two pebbles being clicked together, slowly at first then picking up speed.
Cache Your Way Question
For such a small frog, they have a big leap. How far can they leap?
