With the 2006 Winter Olympics just finished, this cache is placed
in dedication to all the athletes that strive to compete at this
level. There are also very few caches in this area, so I thought it
would be good to have a freeway accessible cache here.
The cache location is a living tribute to the Olympics, but is
unfortunately placed in a location where probably not too many
people notice. In fact, the area is not the best, but should be OK
during daylight hours. I would not recommend visiting this spot at
night.
Note that there is a plaque near the cache location paying
tribute to someone named 'Jesse Robinson' that I have not been able
to find any information on. If anyone knows anything about him,
please log the information!
Cache container should not be new to most cachers. Large enough
for a log, a short pencil and small trades only.
A Geocaching button for FTF.
UPDATED 1/6/2008: Replaced previous cache, which was destroyed
due to a complete, and well needed, refurbishment of the park. The
cache was moved slightly from the original location and is an
easier find than before. We choose not to relocate to the original
location due to the newly installed landscaping, which the old
cache location would have spoiled from multiple visits from
geocachers. THANKS to the Mayor and City Council of Compton for
seeing the need to fix the eyesore that this park had become. Just
in time for Olympic fever to hit again later this year!
