Geocache Description:

Visit one of South Pasadena's historical treasures... and find a little cache at the same time! What the heck else could you ask for?!

In 1906 the architect Norman Foot Marsh, designer of the new California community of Venice, was commissioned by the Woman’s Improvement Association of South Pasadena to design a watering trough and wayside station for their small town. Its purpose was to serve “as a rest stop for horses and men as they traveled between Los Angeles and Pasadena.” Today, nearly a hundred years later, this Arroyo stone structure still stands...

... ironically, right next to the just-opened Metro Gold Line station, connecting L.A. and Pasadena! Yes, our little town is changing, and this area - roughly the intersection of Meridian Avenue and Mission Street - is truly being transformed. After checking-out the trough, take a moment to stop at the Meridian Iron Works where Aaron F. McReynolds ran a general store in the '80s and '90s - the 1880s and '90s, that is! There are also two great coffee houses less than a block away - neither of which is a Starbucks! And some antique stores. And the library! And on Thursday afternoons, there's even a farmer's market!! It's all happening, baby!

Oh, yeah, the cache: be advised that LarsThorwald was forced to deviate from our norm on this one: the cache is NOT in a Hide-a-Key! It's in a film canister instead. No groveling will be needed to find it - the best clue we can give you is the name of this cache. Good luck!
